Read-Along Books
Read-Along Books
Simple, silly storybooks a new reader can really read. Every word lights up as it's read aloud, and any word can be sounded out.
Watch the words
Each page reads itself aloud, and every word lights up the moment it’s spoken.
Tap any word
Hear it again, as many times as your reader wants.
Sound it out
Each letter lights up with its sound, then the sounds blend into the word.
Your turn
Your reader reads the page out loud. At the end, a word hunt checks the new words.
What are the Read-Along Books?
Short picture books written for children who are learning to read. Each book sticks to one short vowel sound, so almost every word can be sounded out with the letter sounds your child already knows: cat, sat, mat in the first book, pig, dig, wig in the next. Books like these are called decodable books, and they let a beginner read a whole story on their own instead of guessing from the pictures.
How to use them
- Warm up. The cover lists the book's new words. Tap each one, then press Sound it out.
- Read to me. Turn the page and listen while each word lights up. Point along with your finger.
- I read first. Your child reads the page aloud, then taps Read to me to check.
- Story time. The book reads itself and turns its own pages, like a read-aloud at bedtime.
- Heart words like the and a have a red dotted line. They don't follow the usual sounds yet, so children learn them by heart.
Who they're for
Preschool, kindergarten, and first grade, or any child who knows most letter sounds and is ready to blend them into words. If your child is still learning the sounds, start with Letter Sounds and Blending & Segmenting, then come back.
