Letter Sounds
Meet all 26 letters — tap each one to hear its name, the sound it makes, and a picture word to remember it by.
Tap any letter to hear its name, its sound, and a picture word. Switch the toggle to lead with the sound.
What is the Letter Sounds tool?
A friendly, interactive alphabet chart. Tap any letter and the stage shows its capital and lowercase forms together, says the letter's name, makes its most common sound, and shows a simple keyword picture — like A a, /a/, 🍎 apple. It turns the whole alphabet into something your child can explore at their own pace.
How to use it
- Tap a letter in the A–Z grid to hear its name, its sound, and a picture word.
- Letter names / Letter sounds — switch what a tap says first: the letter's name (ay, bee, see) or the sound it makes (/a/, /b/, /k/).
- Hear it replays the current letter, Next steps through A to Z, and Shuffle jumps to a surprise letter.
- Tap the big letters, the sound, or the picture on their own to hear just that part.
Why letter sounds matter
Before children can read, they need to know that letters stand for sounds. Learning the sound each letter makes — not only its name — is the first step of phonics and the key to sounding out (decoding) new words. Pairing every letter with a picture keyword gives your child a memory hook they can come back to again and again.
Good for
Preschool and kindergarten (roughly ages 3–6), and a gentle review for any early reader still firming up the alphabet. When your child is ready to push sounds together into words, the Blending & Segmenting lesson is the natural next step.
