Rhyming Words

Pick the words that rhyme — the ones that share the same ending sound as the target word.

Which words rhyme?

Tap a word to hear it, then tap the box it belongs in.

Rhyming words share the same ending sound — like cat, hat, and bat. Say the words out loud and listen to the very end of each one.

What is rhyming?

Words rhyme when they share the same ending sound — like cat, hat, and bat. Hearing those matching endings is one of the very first reading skills, and it is pure listening: no letters or spelling required yet.

How to use this tool

  • Look at the big target word at the top — tap it to hear it out loud.
  • Tap each word tile to hear it, then say it together with your child.
  • Sort every tile into “Rhymes with …” or “Doesn’t rhyme.” Correct picks lock in green; a wrong pick bounces gently back so you can try again.
  • Tap Next for a brand-new target word.

Why it helps

Rhyming builds phonological awareness — the ear for the sounds inside words — which is one of the strongest predictors of how smoothly a child learns to read and spell. Saying the words aloud together makes the matching endings pop.

Good for

Preschool and kindergarten (ages 3–6), and a gentle, playful warm-up for any early reader who is still building sound skills.
