What is a number line?
A number line is a straight line with numbers placed at equal distances. It turns abstract numbers into a place you can point to, making it one of the clearest ways to see how counting and arithmetic actually work.
How to use this tool
- Count — choose a range and a target, then press play to hop from one number to the next, hearing each one.
- Add and Subtract — watch the marker jump forward or back, with the hop labeled (+3, −2).
- Multiply — see equal skip-count jumps build a product (3 groups of 4).
- Divide — hop backward in equal groups to see how many fit.
Why it helps
Seeing addition as “jumping forward” and multiplication as “equal jumps” builds number sense that sticks. Turn the voice on and let your child predict where the marker lands next.
Good for
Preschool counting through elementary addition, subtraction, and the times tables.
