Compare & Contrast
Pick two things, then sort each trait — what makes them alike, and what makes them different — onto a Venn diagram.
Compare & Contrast
Tap a trait, then tap where it belongs: only one side, or Both.
Compare — how two things are alike. Those traits go in the middle, Both.
Contrast — how two things are different. Those go under Only one side.
What are compare and contrast?
To compare is to notice how two things are alike; to contrast is to notice how they are different. A Venn diagram shows both at once: shared traits sit in the middle (“Both”), and the traits that belong to just one thing sit on its own side.
How to use this tool
- Pick a pair to think about, like Cat vs Dog or Sun vs Moon.
- Tap a trait card (it reads itself aloud), then tap where it belongs.
- Correct cards lock in green; a card that isn’t a match gently bounces back to try again.
- Tap Shuffle for a fresh mix, or Next to move on to a new pair.
Why it helps
Sorting real traits onto a Venn diagram turns an abstract thinking skill into something kids can see and touch. It builds the same reasoning used to compare characters, animals, seasons, and ideas across reading and writing — and it makes the words alike and differentconcrete.
Good for
Second grade through middle school (grades 2–8), and a friendly warm-up before any compare-and-contrast writing assignment.
