Fix-it: add the missing capital or dot

Find and correct missing capital letters and missing ending punctuation in given sentences.

This week you are the editor. An editor job is to find mistakes and fix them, not to write brand new sentences.

Look for two things only: a missing capital at the start, and a missing period or question mark at the end.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Write a few broken sentences yourself for your child to fix, mixing telling sentences and questions.
  • Have your child read each sentence out loud first, to help decide whether it needs a period or a question mark.
  • Praise the noticing, not just the fixing. Spotting the mistake is the real skill.
  • Keep sentences short and familiar so the fixing job stays about the two specific rules, not new vocabulary.
Talk about it:
  • What two things did you check for in each broken sentence today?
  • How did you decide between a period and a question mark?
  • Was it easier to spot the missing capital or the missing ending mark?

Mastery looks like: They reliably find and correct a missing capital letter and a missing or wrong ending mark in a given sentence.

Common stumbles: Fixing the capital but missing the ending mark, or the reverse; adding a period to a question by mistake; changing the words of the sentence instead of just fixing the two rules.
