Kindergarten · Writing · week 21

Write "I like ___."

Complete and write the sentence frame "I like ___." to express a real preference, with correct capitalization and punctuation.

This week sentence frame is "I like ___." Instead of naming something you see, you tell someone something you actually like.

This kind of sentence shares your own opinion. Nobody else has exactly the same answer as you.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Ask your child what they truly like before writing, so the sentence is honest, not just easy to spell.
  • Offer to help sound out a trickier word if it is something they really want to write, rather than steering them to an easier word.
  • Talk about how everyone in the family might finish this sentence differently, and that is perfectly fine.
  • Keep checking the two sentence rules from week 19 every time.
Talk about it:
  • What did you say you like today?
  • Would another person in our family finish this sentence the same way?
  • What is something new you like that you have not written about yet?

Mastery looks like: They write "I like ___." correctly with a true, personal answer, always capitalizing I and ending with a period.

Common stumbles: Copying someone else answer instead of their own true preference; forgetting the period; avoiding a favorite word just because it is hard to spell.
