First-sound carnival

Show fluency with the letter sounds learned all year so far through a joyful, carnival-style review.

Welcome to the first-sound carnival! Every game booth tests one sound you already know. There is no way to lose -- only sounds to celebrate.

You have learned so many sounds this year. Today is about showing off everything you know, one game at a time.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Set up two or three simple "booths" around the house: a picture-sound game, a beanbag toss onto letter cards, a matching game.
  • Keep score low-stakes or skip it entirely; the point is joyful review, not pressure.
  • Note quietly which two or three sounds still need work, without making that visible to the child.
  • End with a small celebration for finishing the carnival, whatever the accuracy level.
Talk about it:
  • Which carnival booth was your favorite?
  • Which sound did you get to practice the most today?
  • What do you want to learn next?

Mastery looks like: They move through several sound-review games with general accuracy and confidence, needing only occasional reminders.

Common stumbles: Losing steam across many booths in a row; needing frequent reminders on the same few tricky sounds.
