Show-what-you-know counting picnic

Review and demonstrate counting to 5, sorting by color and size, and comparing piles, in a picnic-themed celebration.

This week is a picnic to show off everything you have learned: counting, sorting, and comparing.

Pack a pretend picnic and use your counting and sorting skills on real snacks.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Turn this into a real event - a blanket on the floor, a pretend basket, snacks to count - the fun makes the review stick.
  • Ask your child to show you each skill instead of you demonstrating it; this is their week to shine.
  • Mix all the skills together naturally, the way a real picnic would - no need for a strict order.
  • Praise growth, not perfection - notice what is easier now than nine weeks ago.
Talk about it:
  • What is your favorite counting or sorting trick you have learned so far?
  • Can you count our picnic snacks for me?
  • Can you sort our picnic things into piles?

Mastery looks like: Child confidently counts to 5, sorts by color and size, and compares two piles, using the skills from the first eight weeks.

Common stumbles: Child may need a reminder prompt ("touch each one!") to bring back a skill from a few weeks ago - a normal part of review.
