Year-end counting celebration

Celebrate and demonstrate the full range of counting, comparing, sorting, patterning, and shape skills from the preschool year.

You have grown so much this year - from counting to 3 all the way to counting to 20.

Today is a celebration of everything you know: counting, comparing, sorting, patterns, and shapes.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Make this a genuine celebration - a small party, favorite snacks, and lots of praise for a full year of growth.
  • Let your child pick which skill to show off first; today is about confidence, not testing.
  • Reflect out loud together on how far they have come since week 1 (counting to just 3 objects).
  • Keep a simple note or photo of what they can do now, as a keepsake of this first math year.
Talk about it:
  • What is the number skill you are most proud of from this whole year?
  • Can you count all the way to 20 for our celebration?
  • What number or math thing do you want to learn next?

Mastery looks like: Child confidently demonstrates counting to 20, comparing sets, sorting, patterning, and shape recognition, showing a full year of preschool math growth.

Common stumbles: No new stumble this week - if any old skill feels rusty, a quick, cheerful reminder is all that is needed before the celebration continues.
