Count to 5 tapping each object once

Extend one-to-one counting up to 5 objects, tapping each object exactly once.

Last week you counted to 3. Now you will count all the way to 5.

The rule is still the same: tap one thing for every number word. One tap, one word, all the way to five.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Use real snacks or toys - counting real things your child can hold is much easier than counting pictures.
  • Model tapping firmly on each object so the touch is obvious, not a light brush.
  • If your child skips a number, go back to one and tap together, hand over hand, at a slower pace.
  • Keep it short and cheerful - a minute or two of counting is plenty for a 4-year-old.
Talk about it:
  • Can you tap and count these 5 blocks with me?
  • What is the last number you say when you count all of them?
  • Can you find 5 things on the table to count?

Mastery looks like: Child taps and counts a group of up to 5 objects, one tap per object, landing on the correct total.

Common stumbles: Child taps twice on one object or skips an object, so the last number does not match the real total.
