Count to 10: the two-hands number

Count to 10, connecting the number ten to all the fingers on two hands.

Ten is a special number - it is exactly how many fingers you have on two hands.

Count all your fingers, one at a time, and you will land on ten.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Fingers are the best tool for ten - your child carries this counting tool everywhere.
  • Practice counting from 6 onward on its own too, since starting mid-count is a different, harder skill than starting at one.
  • Ten is worth celebrating as a milestone number - make a little fuss when your child lands on it correctly.
  • Keep mixing ten into everyday moments: ten toes, ten crayons, ten steps.
Talk about it:
  • How many fingers do you have in all?
  • Can you count to 10 using your fingers?
  • What comes right after nine?

Mastery looks like: Child counts to 10 accurately, matching one number to one finger or object each time.

Common stumbles: Child loses the sequence between 6 and 9, the least-practiced numbers so far.
