Forming the letters s-z

Form the lowercase letters s, t, u, v, w, x, y, and z correctly, completing the full lowercase alphabet.

The last stretch. Eight letters this week: s, t, u, v, w, x, y, and z. After this week you will have written every lowercase letter.

Some of these letters are curvy (s, u), and some are all straight lines (v, w, x, z). Notice which is which as you write.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • This week covers s, t, u, v, w, x, y, and z, the last eight letters. Split them across several days rather than one sitting.
  • w is just two v shapes side by side. Point out that big letters are often built from small repeated moves.
  • Watch for y: the tail dips below the line, similar to g, j, p, and q from earlier weeks.
  • Once all 26 letters have been introduced, celebrate together. This is the full lowercase alphabet.
Talk about it:
  • Now that you know all 26 letters, which was the trickiest one to learn?
  • Can you say the whole alphabet while pointing to each letter you write?
  • Which curvy letter and which straight-line letter did you write today?

Mastery looks like: They form all eight letters s through z correctly, completing legible formation of the full lowercase alphabet.

Common stumbles: Forgetting the cross on t; making v and w with rounded curves instead of sharp points; leaving off the tail on y.
