Write about a pet or animal

Write two to three sentences giving simple facts or descriptions about a pet or animal.

This week you write to inform, not just to tell a story. Pick a pet or an animal you know well and tell some true things about it.

Think about how it looks, what it does, or what it eats. Each sentence can share one true fact.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • If you do not have a pet, a favorite animal from a book, a farm, or the zoo works just as well.
  • Prompt with specific questions: how does it look? what does it do? what does it eat?
  • Let each sentence carry one true fact rather than cramming several ideas into one sentence.
  • This is early informational writing, different from the personal story writing from last week.
Talk about it:
  • What animal did you write about today?
  • What is one true fact you shared about it?
  • How is writing facts about an animal different from writing a story about your own day?

Mastery looks like: They write two or three factual sentences about an animal, each sentence carrying one clear, true idea.

Common stumbles: Writing an imaginary detail instead of a true one; repeating the same fact in more than one sentence; combining several facts into one crowded sentence.
