Two sentences that go together

Write two related sentences on the same topic that make sense together, in a sensible order.

One sentence can only say so much. This week you write two sentences that go together, like two puzzle pieces about the same idea.

Your second sentence should add something new, not just repeat the first one in different words.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Choose a simple, familiar topic first, like a meal, a pet, or a recent outing.
  • Ask "what else can you tell me about that?" after the first sentence, to prompt a true second idea.
  • Check that both sentences follow the rules learned so far: capital, spacing, ending mark.
  • Read both sentences back together and ask if they sound like they belong together.
Talk about it:
  • What topic did your two sentences share today?
  • What new information did your second sentence add?
  • Do your two sentences sound like they belong together?

Mastery looks like: They write two sentences on the same topic where the second sentence adds new, related information in a sensible order.

Common stumbles: The second sentence just repeats the first with different words; the two sentences are about unrelated topics; forgetting sentence rules on the second sentence.
