Alphabet Fluency: Any Letter, Any Sound

Say the correct sound instantly for any of the 26 letters, shown in mixed order and in both uppercase and lowercase.

You know every letter sound now. This week is about speed. Can you say the sound the instant you see the letter, no matter the order, no matter its size?

A big S and a little s are the same letter and the same sound, just two different looks. Fast and automatic is the whole goal this week.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Write or print the 26 letters on cards, mixing uppercase and lowercase, and shuffle them before every round.
  • Time a quick round with a timer just for fun, then try to beat that time on another day.
  • Set aside any letter that takes more than two seconds and give it a little extra practice on its own.
  • Keep sessions short, two or three minutes, several times this week, rather than one long drill.
Talk about it:
  • Which letters are fully automatic for you now?
  • Which one or two letters still need a little more practice?
  • Does a big letter and a small letter ever make a different sound?

Mastery looks like: They say the correct sound instantly for any letter shown, uppercase or lowercase, in any order.

Common stumbles: Pausing to run through the alphabet in order to find one letter sound instead of recognizing it instantly; treating an uppercase letter as if it were a different letter from its lowercase match.
