Blending Every Day

Blend three spoken sounds into a word smoothly and quickly, using any of the 26 letter sounds.

You know all 26 letter sounds now. This whole week is about one skill: blending them fast. Blending means gluing sounds together with no gaps.

Try robot talk. Say a word slow and choppy, robot style: c...u...p. Then say it the fast, smooth way: cup. Robot talk first, real talk second.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Say a word in robot talk yourself first so your child hears the pattern before trying it.
  • Let your child robot-talk a word, then you say it fast, then let them say it fast too.
  • Play this in short bursts all week: in the car, at snack time, during a bath. Little bursts beat one long drill.
  • If a blend does not click, slow the gap between sounds, then close the gap little by little.
Talk about it:
  • What is robot talk, in your own words?
  • Which word was the trickiest to blend today?
  • Can you robot-talk your own name?

Mastery looks like: They blend any three spoken sounds into a smooth, correct word without needing to see it written down.

Common stumbles: Leaving a big gap between sounds so the word never comes together; guessing a word instead of truly blending all three sounds.
