Sight Words to 40

Recognize a new set of common sight words instantly, growing the total sight-word bank toward 40 words.

You already know about 25 words by sight. This week you add more: you, are, said, and have. Soon you will know close to 40 words the instant you see them.

Some of these, like have, do not sound out in the usual way. Learn them the same way as your heart words, by looking again and again until they are automatic.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Add these four words into your daily flash review along with all the earlier sight and heart words.
  • Point out that said is especially tricky since it does not sound out the way it looks. Learn it purely by sight.
  • Keep review sessions short and frequent, a couple of minutes, several times a day.
  • Track the growing list somewhere your child can see it, since watching the number grow is motivating.
Talk about it:
  • Which of these four new words is the trickiest?
  • About how many sight words do you know altogether now?
  • Can you use have in a sentence about something you own?

Mastery looks like: They recognize you, are, said, and have instantly, growing their automatic sight-word bank toward 40 words.

Common stumbles: Trying to sound out said the regular way instead of learning it by sight; losing an earlier sight word from a lack of review.
