Year-end celebration: counting and measuring

Demonstrate the core skills of the year, counting to 100, comparing groups, and comparing length, weight, or capacity, in a celebratory review.

What a year. You started by counting to 10, and now you can count all the way to 100, add and subtract, and compare lengths, weights, and containers. This week celebrates everything you have learned.

We will mix it all together: counting, comparing groups, and measuring, just like a real kindergarten graduate.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Make this a celebration, not a test. Look back at how far your child has come since week 1.
  • Mix a little of everything: counting, comparing groups, length, weight, and capacity.
  • Let your child show off their favorite skill from the whole year.
  • Talk about what is coming next in first grade with excitement, not pressure.
Talk about it:
  • What is the math skill you are most proud of from this year?
  • What was hard in September that feels easy now?
  • What math question do you want to explore next?

Mastery looks like: They count fluently to 100, compare groups accurately, and compare length, weight, or capacity using a fair method.

Common stumbles: Rushing through the review; needing a reminder to test comparisons fairly (lining up, pouring) rather than guessing.
