Checkpoint: fractions, decimals, and negative numbers

Demonstrate fluency with fraction division, decimal operations, negative numbers, and GCF/LCM in a mixed review.

This checkpoint pulls together the number-sense unit: dividing fractions, decimal operations, negative numbers and absolute value, the coordinate plane, and GCF and LCM.

As always, name the type of problem first, then choose the right method - that habit matters more than any single calculation.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let them try the mixed set independently first, to see what is truly automatic.
  • If stuck, ask "what unit are we in - fractions, decimals, or negative numbers?" to trigger the right method.
  • Track which specific skill needs another pass, often fraction division or negative-number ordering.
  • Keep the tone celebratory - this is real progress since week 10.
Talk about it:
  • Which number-sense skill from the last nine weeks feels the strongest to you?
  • Which one still trips you up?
  • How do you decide whether a problem needs the GCF or the LCM?

Mastery looks like: They accurately solve a mixed set of fraction-division, decimal, negative-number, and GCF/LCM problems.

Common stumbles: Mixing up methods across skill types; sign errors with negative numbers under time pressure.
