Checkpoint: facts and place value

Review and demonstrate fluency with addition and subtraction facts within 20 and 3-digit place value.

This week is a checkpoint -- no new ideas, just showing what you have learned. You will mix fast facts within 20 with place value: building, comparing, and writing 3-digit numbers.

Checkpoints help you and your teacher see which ideas are solid and which need a little more practice before moving on.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let this feel like a relaxed review, not a test -- the goal is to notice what is solid.
  • If facts within 20 are still slow, spend extra minutes each day this week just on those before moving forward.
  • If place value is shaky, go back to real blocks rather than only worksheets.
  • Notice which 2 or 3 problem types need another pass, so next unit can start strong.
Talk about it:
  • Which felt easier this week: the addition facts or the place value problems?
  • Is there one type of problem you would like more practice on?
  • How do you check your own work when you are not sure of an answer?

Mastery looks like: They solve mixed within-20 facts and 3-digit place value problems (build, compare, expanded form) accurately.

Common stumbles: Slowing down badly when switching between fact practice and place-value thinking in the same sitting.
