Acceleration and the Kinematic Equations — Homework

List your knowns (v0, v, a, x, t) before choosing an equation for each problem.

  1. 1.A ball's velocity increases from 4 m/s to 28 m/s over 6 s. Find its acceleration.
  2. 2.A rocket sled starts at rest and accelerates at 8 m/s^2 for 5 s. Find its final velocity and the distance it travels.
  3. 3.A car moving at 20 m/s brakes at -4 m/s^2. Find how far it travels before stopping.
  4. 4.A skateboarder's velocity goes from 6 m/s to 2 m/s over 2 s, still moving in the same direction the whole time. Find the acceleration and explain what its sign means physically here.
  5. 5.Explain why equation x = ((v0+v)/2)*t only works when acceleration is constant.
  6. 6.Describe an everyday situation (other than a car) with roughly constant acceleration, and identify which of the five kinematic variables you could realistically measure or estimate.
