Narrative Practice: My Best Day

Write a complete small-moment narrative about a favorite day, using sequence words, a feeling, and a said sentence.

Time to bring every narrative tool together: a zoomed-in small moment, sequence words, a feeling, and maybe even a said sentence -- all about one of your best days.

Remember: pick ONE small moment from that day, not the whole thing, and tell it in order with real detail.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let your child choose the "best day" freely -- big or small, as long as it is true and they want to tell it.
  • Walk through the tool checklist together: zoomed-in moment, sequence words, a feeling, maybe talking.
  • Resist adding every tool if it does not fit naturally -- a said sentence only belongs if someone really spoke.
  • Read the whole draft aloud together and enjoy it as a story, not just an assignment.
Talk about it:
  • What best day did you choose to write about?
  • Which narrative tool (sequence words, feelings, talking) did you use most naturally?
  • What is your favorite sentence in this story, and why?

Mastery looks like: They write a multi-sentence small-moment narrative that uses sequence words and at least one feeling.

Common stumbles: Slipping back into telling the whole day instead of staying zoomed in on the one best moment.
