Skip count 10s from any number

Skip count by 10s starting from any number, not just zero, such as 4, 14, 24.

You already skip count by 10 from zero: 10, 20, 30. This week you start from ANY number, not just zero. Starting at 4: 4, 14, 24, 34 -- just add a ten each time, and the ones digit never changes!

That is because adding 10 only changes the tens digit, just like in week 16. The ones digit stays put the whole time, like a passenger in the same seat.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Use a hundred chart -- skip counting by 10 from any number is just moving straight down one row at a time.
  • Point out the ones digit staying put every single jump; that pattern is the whole lesson.
  • Practice starting from several different numbers, not just easy ones like 5 or 10.
  • Connect back to "ten more" from week 14 -- skip counting by 10 is just repeating that trick.
Talk about it:
  • If you skip count by 10 starting at 8, what is the next number?
  • Why does the ones digit never change when skip counting by 10?
  • How is this connected to finding "ten more" than a number?

Mastery looks like: They skip count by 10 starting from any number, keeping the ones digit constant each jump.

Common stumbles: Changing the ones digit by mistake; losing track of the starting number partway through.
