Hot Day, Cold Day Clothes Sort

Sort clothing by hot-weather and cold-weather appropriateness, connecting clothes to temperature.

What you wear depends on the weather. Shorts for a hot day. A coat for a cold day.

Sort some clothes into hot-day and cold-day piles.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Pull a small pile of mixed clothing from the closet to sort together.
  • Hold up each item and ask hot day or cold day before sorting it.
  • Connect the sort back to earlier weather-watching weeks.
  • Let your child pick out tomorrow outfit based on the forecast or how it feels today.
Talk about it:
  • Why do we wear different clothes in different weather?
  • What is your favorite hot-day outfit? Cold-day outfit?
  • What would happen if you wore a winter coat on a very hot day?

Mastery looks like: They can correctly sort at least four clothing items into hot-day and cold-day groups.

Common stumbles: Sorting by favorite color or character instead of temperature is common; refocusing on would this keep you cool or warm redirects the sort.
