Clouds: What Shapes Do You See?

Observe clouds and describe their shapes, and learn that clouds are made of tiny water droplets.

Look up! Clouds float across the sky in all kinds of shapes.

Clouds are made of tiny water droplets floating way up high.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Pick a day with some clouds, not a totally clear sky, and sit outside together.
  • Take turns naming what shapes you each see in the clouds.
  • Watch one cloud for a full minute to notice it slowly changing shape.
  • Mention that clouds are tiny water droplets; this connects to puddles and rain from other weeks.
Talk about it:
  • What shape did you see today that surprised you?
  • Why do you think clouds change shape?
  • What color were the clouds today?

Mastery looks like: They can describe at least one cloud shape they noticed and say that clouds are made of tiny water droplets.

Common stumbles: Wanting a cloud to stay in a fun shape is common; explaining that wind slowly moves and reshapes clouds helps set expectations.
