Plant a Bean in a Cup

Plant a bean seed in a cup and predict what will happen.

Seeds can grow into plants. Today, plant a bean seed and start watching it grow.

First, guess what you think will happen!

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let your child do the planting themselves: scooping soil, placing the seed, adding water.
  • Write down or draw the prediction today so you can check it later.
  • Pick a sunny windowsill together for the cup to live on.
  • Remind your child that growing takes time; nothing will happen overnight.
Talk about it:
  • What do you think your bean will look like in one week?
  • What does a seed need to grow?
  • How do you feel about starting your very own plant?

Mastery looks like: They can name what a seed needs to grow, soil, water, and light, and state a simple prediction.

Common stumbles: Expecting to see a plant right away is very common; checking in on a set day each week helps manage the wait.
