Match Baby Animals to Grown-Ups

Match baby animals to their parent animals and learn their special names.

Baby animals have special names. A baby dog is a puppy. A baby cat is a kitten.

Match baby animals to their grown-up parents!

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Use picture cards or a book showing baby and grown-up animal pairs.
  • Play a simple matching game: baby animal cards next to their parent cards.
  • Say each special baby name out loud together a few times.
  • Point out that just like animal babies, human babies grow up too.
Talk about it:
  • Which baby animal name is the funniest to say?
  • Do you know any other baby animal names?
  • How are baby animals like human babies?

Mastery looks like: They can correctly name at least three baby animals and match them to their parent animal.

Common stumbles: Baby animal names do not follow one pattern, so mixing them up is common; repeating them in a fun rhyme or song helps them stick.
