Animal Moves: Hop, Slither, Gallop

Match animals to the special way they move and act out each movement.

Animals move in different ways. A rabbit hops. A snake slithers. A horse gallops.

Act out how different animals move!

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Clear a little space to move safely before you start.
  • Demonstrate each movement yourself first, then invite your child to copy you.
  • Call out an animal name and both of you move like it, popcorn style.
  • Talk about why each animal moves that way, such as a snake having no legs at all.
Talk about it:
  • Which animal movement was the most fun to act out?
  • Which animal move is the fastest? Which is the slowest?
  • Can you think of an animal that swims instead of walking?

Mastery looks like: They can correctly match at least three animals to their movement word and act each one out.

Common stumbles: Mixing up similar-looking movements, such as hopping and jumping, is normal; the fun of acting it out matters more than a perfect label.
