Sing-spell your name

Recite the letters of your own name in order, using a simple tune or chant.

You can turn the letters of your name into a little song! Say each letter in order, one at a time, like a small parade.

Singing the letters of your name is a fun way to remember the exact order they go in.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Use any simple, familiar tune (even one you make up) -- the tune matters far less than saying the letters in order.
  • Model it first yourself, nice and slow, before asking the child to try.
  • Keep it to the letters only this week; the child does not need to write anything.
  • Celebrate the performance -- singing it for a sibling, pet, or stuffed animal makes it stick.
Talk about it:
  • What is the first letter in your name-song?
  • What is the last letter in your name-song?
  • Who did you sing your name-song for today?

Mastery looks like: They can recite the letters of their own name in the correct order, from memory, without looking at the card.

Common stumbles: Skipping or swapping the order of letters; needing to look at the name card the whole time.
