Storyteller celebration

Celebrate a year of pre-reading growth by retelling a favorite story with confidence, using sounds, letters, and story order learned all year.

Look how far you have come! You know letters, sounds, rhymes, and how to blend and retell a story. Today is a celebration of all of it.

Pick your favorite story from this whole year and get ready to tell it like a true storyteller.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let the child pick the story and practice it once or twice in private before the real performance.
  • Gather a small audience -- family, a pet, or stuffed animals all count.
  • Notice out loud everything they have grown at this year: names, sounds, rhymes, blending, and retelling.
  • Make this a true celebration: a special seat, a certificate, or simply big applause at the end.
Talk about it:
  • What are you most proud of learning this year?
  • What was your favorite activity from the whole year?
  • What do you want to learn next?

Mastery looks like: They confidently retell a favorite story in order and can point to at least one letter and sound within it, showing a year of pre-reading growth.

Common stumbles: Feeling shy in front of an audience; needing prompts to keep the story in order under the excitement of performing.
