Who what where questions after stories

Answer simple who, what, and where questions about a story you just heard.

After a story, a few quick questions check what you remember. Who was in the story? What happened? Where did it happen?

Good listening means you can answer these questions using the story, not just a guess.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Ask the three questions right after reading, while the story is still fresh.
  • If an answer is wrong, flip back to the page that shows the answer rather than simply correcting it.
  • Keep the story short enough that all three answers are easy to find and remember.
  • Vary which question you ask first so the child is truly listening, not just reciting a memorized order.
Talk about it:
  • Who was your favorite character in the story?
  • What was the most exciting part?
  • Where would you want the next story to happen?

Mastery looks like: They answer who, what, and where questions correctly about a short story they just heard.

Common stumbles: Confusing who and what; answering with something they wish happened instead of what the story actually said.
