F L and W -- fff lll wuh

Learn three more sounds: F (fff), L (lll), and W (wuh), noticing how differently your mouth moves for each.

F says fff, blowing air gently through your teeth. L says lll, tapping your tongue behind your top teeth. W says wuh, with round, puckered lips.

Fff, lll, wuh -- three more sounds for your growing collection.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Model each mouth shape slowly and let the child watch your lips and teeth closely.
  • Use a mirror if you have one; seeing their own mouth make the shape helps a lot at this age.
  • Practice each sound alone for a minute before mixing all three.
  • Bring back a couple of older sounds as a quick warm-up so review never fully stops.
Talk about it:
  • Which sound uses your lips the most?
  • Which sound taps your tongue?
  • What is one word that starts with wuh?

Mastery looks like: They can produce the F, L, and W sounds with roughly the right mouth shape and sort familiar words among them.

Common stumbles: Swapping the lll tongue-tap for a wuh lip-round, since both can feel similar to a beginner; rushing through the air sound fff.
