Match pictures to first sounds

Match pictures to the letter that matches their first sound, reviewing the sounds learned so far.

You know many sounds now: P, B, R, D, G, O, I, N, E, plus S, A, T, M, C, H from before. Today, match pictures to the sound they start with.

Say the picture name slowly, listen to the very first sound, then find its match.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Use real pictures or objects for the sounds you have taught so far, so the game has something to touch and sort.
  • Always say the picture name slowly together before asking for a match.
  • If a match is wrong, do not just correct it -- say the word slowly again together and try once more.
  • Mix in a couple of sounds from the first set (S, A, T, M, C, H) so review stays alive.
Talk about it:
  • Which picture was the trickiest to match?
  • Which sound do you feel most confident about now?
  • Can you think of your own picture for one of these sounds?

Mastery looks like: They can say a picture name slowly, isolate its first sound, and match it to the correct letter most of the time.

Common stumbles: Matching by what the picture looks like instead of its first sound; rushing the word instead of stretching it.
