The first letter of MY name

Identify and name the first letter of your own name, both by its name and its look.

Your name starts with one special letter. That letter comes first every single time you see your name written down.

Letters have names, just like you do! Learn the name of your very first letter this week.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Point to the very first letter on the name card and say its name clearly and slowly.
  • Hunt for that same letter around the house -- a cereal box, a book spine, a street sign -- to show letters live everywhere.
  • Keep this to ONE letter this week: the first letter of the name of the child. Depth beats breadth at this age.
  • Praise any correct spotting, even a lucky guess -- confidence keeps them looking.
Talk about it:
  • What is the name of your first letter?
  • Where else did you find that letter today?
  • Does your letter look tall, short, round, or straight?

Mastery looks like: They can name the first letter of their own name and spot it in a new place.

Common stumbles: Mixing up the letter NAME with its sound; pointing to the wrong letter in the word.
