T says tuh -- tap tap tap

Learn that the letter T makes the "tuh" sound, like a light tap, and find that sound at the start of words.

The letter T makes a light tapping sound: tuh, like tapping your finger on the table.

Say tuh with me. Table starts with tuh. Turtle starts with tuh too!

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Tap an actual table or your knee while saying tuh so the sound and the motion connect.
  • Keep the tap light and quick, not a heavy stomp -- that matches the light quality of the sound.
  • Use real T words (table, turtle, tap) rather than the letter name "tee."
  • Revisit the sss sound from last week briefly, so review of past sounds never stops.
Talk about it:
  • What does tapping the table sound like?
  • What is one word that starts with tuh?
  • Can you find something that starts with tuh right now?

Mastery looks like: They can produce the "tuh" sound on request and identify whether a spoken word starts with it.

Common stumbles: Confusing tuh with the similar duh sound; saying the letter name "tee" instead of the sound.
