Find your name card every morning

Recognize your own written name as a special shape and find your name card among a few others.

You have a name. It is yours and only yours! Your name is also a shape you can learn to spot, like a puppy spots its own leash.

Every morning, look for the card with your name on it. The letters do not change. The shape of your name stays the same every single day.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Write the name the same way every day (same capital first letter, same lowercase rest) so the shape stays consistent for a beginner.
  • Make three or four cards: the name of the child, plus one or two other familiar names, to give a real choice.
  • Always say the name out loud before asking the child to point, so the search connects a sound to a shape.
  • Cheer for the find. This is real reading work: matching a spoken word to a printed word.
Talk about it:
  • What was the first thing you noticed about your name card?
  • How is your name card different from mine?
  • What letter does your name start with?

Mastery looks like: They can pick out their own name card from two or three others without help.

Common stumbles: Guessing by card position instead of looking at the letters; needing the name said aloud every single time.
