Sort by size: big and little

Sort objects into two groups by size: big and little.

Things can be sorted by size too, not just color.

A pile can be "big things" and another pile can be "little things."

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Use objects with an obvious size difference at first - a beach ball next to a marble, not two similar balls.
  • Say "big" and "little" often as you sort, so the words stick to the idea.
  • Let your child compare two objects side by side before deciding which pile they belong in.
  • Praise the comparing, not just the final pile - "you looked at both and picked the bigger one!"
Talk about it:
  • Which one is bigger, this or that?
  • Can you find something littler than your hand?
  • Why does this toy go in the big pile?

Mastery looks like: Child sorts a mixed group into "big" and "little" piles correctly and can point to the bigger of any two objects.

Common stumbles: Child confuses "big" with "more," thinking a pile with more little things looks bigger than one big thing.
