My favorite number book (draw 1 to 20)

Create a number book from 1 to 20, matching each numeral to that many drawn objects.

This week you will make your very own number book, one page for each number from 1 to 20.

Each page will show a number and that many matching objects, so you can see and count every number in your book.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Spread this project across several days - 20 pages is a big undertaking for a 4-year-old, and that is fine.
  • Let your child choose what to draw on each page (stars, bugs, dots) - ownership makes the book special.
  • Always recount the objects on a page together to confirm it matches the number before moving on.
  • Keep the drawings simple - dots, blobs, or stickers all count as long as the total is correct.
Talk about it:
  • What did you draw for your favorite number?
  • How do you know your page for this number is correct?
  • Which number was hardest to draw that many objects for?

Mastery looks like: Child creates a complete or near-complete number book from 1 to 20, with each page showing the correct matching number of objects.

Common stumbles: Child draws a number of objects that does not quite match the page number, especially on the higher pages.
