Pattern-and-shape show day

Review and demonstrate shape recognition and AB patterning in a show-and-tell format.

Today is a show day - you get to show off the shapes and patterns you have learned.

You will name shapes and build a pattern for your audience, even if your audience is just your family.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Let your child be the teacher today - they show YOU the shapes and patterns instead of the other way around.
  • Add a little ceremony - an audience of stuffed animals or family members makes review feel like a celebration.
  • Notice out loud how much easier shapes and patterns feel now compared to when they were introduced.
  • If a shape name is shaky, that is useful information for a quick refresh, not a problem.
Talk about it:
  • Which shape is your favorite to talk about? Why?
  • Can you build a pattern and show me what comes next?
  • What is one shape or pattern trick you are proud of?

Mastery looks like: Child confidently names all four shapes and builds and extends an AB pattern for an audience, without prompting.

Common stumbles: Child may still occasionally swap square and rectangle names - a normal, expected mix-up at this age.
