Color sorting rainbow

Sort objects by color and arrange them in rainbow order.

A rainbow has colors in a special order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.

Today you will gather things from around the house and sort them into color piles, then line the piles up like a rainbow.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Gather a big mixed pile of safe household objects or toys before starting.
  • Say the rainbow order together first, like a little chant: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.
  • Let your child do the sorting. Only help if a color is genuinely tricky, like teal.
  • Take a photo of the finished rainbow line. It is nice to look back on.
Talk about it:
  • What is the order of colors in a rainbow?
  • Which color pile was biggest?
  • Where have you seen a real rainbow?

Mastery looks like: They sort objects accurately by color and can place the six main colors in rainbow order.

Common stumbles: Mixing up the order of the rainbow, especially the middle colors green and blue.
