Cutting a straight line

Use safety scissors to cut along a thick, straight drawn line.

Snipping made little cuts. Now you will make one long cut, all the way down a line.

Open, close, open, close. Follow the fat line with your scissors from one end to the other.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Draw the line extra thick and dark so it is easy to see and easy to aim for.
  • Remind your child to move the paper, not just the scissors, to stay on the line.
  • Praise finishing the whole line more than perfect accuracy.
  • Stop if fingers get tired. A short strong practice beats a long tired one.
Talk about it:
  • What helped you stay on the line?
  • Was it easier at the start or the end of the line?
  • What would you like to cut next?

Mastery looks like: They cut along a straight line from end to end, staying reasonably close to it.

Common stumbles: Making one big cut with wide-open scissors instead of several small snips in a row.
