Tear-and-glue collage

Tear paper into pieces by hand and glue them onto paper to build a collage.

Your fingers are a tool too. Today you will tear paper into small pieces instead of cutting it.

Pinch the paper with both hands and pull it apart. Then glue your torn pieces onto a page to make a picture.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Use paper that tears easily, like tissue paper, construction paper, or old magazine pages.
  • Show the pinch-and-pull motion with your own hands first.
  • Use a glue stick if possible. It is easier for small hands to control than liquid glue.
  • Let the picture be whatever it becomes. There is no right shape to aim for.
Talk about it:
  • How is tearing different from cutting?
  • What did your torn pieces turn into?
  • Which piece is your favorite?

Mastery looks like: They tear paper with a pinch-and-pull motion and glue several pieces onto a page.

Common stumbles: Using too much glue, so the paper gets soggy and pieces slide around.
