Draw a story: beginning and end

Draw two pictures that show the beginning and the end of a simple story, in the correct order.

A story has a beginning and an end. Today you will draw two pictures: one for how the story starts, one for how it finishes.

Think of a simple story, even a true one from your own day, like planting a seed and watching it grow.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Offer a couple of simple story ideas if your child is unsure: a seed growing, an egg hatching, getting dressed for the day.
  • Ask what happened first, and what happened at the very end, to separate the two moments clearly.
  • Let your child narrate the story out loud using their pictures as a guide.
  • This is early storytelling and sequencing, a skill that connects straight to reading and writing later.
Talk about it:
  • What story did you choose to draw?
  • What happened at the beginning? What happened at the end?
  • What would happen in the middle of your story?

Mastery looks like: They draw two pictures that clearly show a beginning and an end, in the correct order, and narrate the story.

Common stumbles: Drawing the same scene twice instead of showing something changing from start to finish.
