Draw your favorite animal

Draw a favorite animal using simple shapes, and describe its features out loud.

Animals are made of shapes too. A circle for the body, a smaller circle for the head, lines for legs.

Think of your favorite animal. What shape is its body? What shape are its ears?

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Ask which animal is their favorite before starting, so the drawing has real meaning to them.
  • Break the animal into shapes together out loud: ask what shape is the dog's body, and what shape is its head.
  • Encourage adding personality: a happy face, a wagging tail, a favorite color.
  • Celebrate their choices, even if the animal does not look realistic. Recognizable effort is the goal.
Talk about it:
  • What is your favorite animal, and why?
  • What shapes did you use to draw it?
  • What sound does your animal make?

Mastery looks like: They draw a recognizable animal built from simple shapes and describe a feature or two.

Common stumbles: Trying to draw very fine details, like fur texture, that are too hard at this age and cause frustration.
