Songs with patterned motions

Sing a repetitive song and perform the matching repeating motions in the correct order.

Many songs have a pattern built right in, with the same motions repeating each time.

Today you will sing a song with actions, like clap-clap-stomp, and repeat the pattern every verse.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Pick a song your child already loves. Adding motions to a familiar tune is easier than learning both at once.
  • Model the motion pattern slowly first, then speed up once your child has it.
  • Repeat the same verse a few times so the pattern truly sinks in before moving on.
  • Let your child invent a silly motion pattern of their own for extra fun.
Talk about it:
  • What motions were in your pattern?
  • Was it easier to sing or to do the motions?
  • What new motion pattern could we invent together?

Mastery looks like: They perform a repeating motion pattern in time with a song, in the correct order.

Common stumbles: Getting the motions and the singing out of sync, especially when the song speeds up.
