Paper-chain patterns

Build a paper chain using a repeating color pattern, linking loops in order.

A paper chain is made of paper loops linked together. Today your chain will follow a color pattern.

Glue or tape a loop of one color, then a loop of another color, in the same repeating order.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Pre-cut paper strips in a few colors so little hands can focus on looping, gluing, and pattern order.
  • A glue stick or tape both work. Tape is faster; glue needs a moment to dry.
  • Say the pattern out loud with every new loop, just like with beads and stamps.
  • Hang the finished chain up somewhere to admire, like a doorway or the art wall.
Talk about it:
  • What color pattern did you choose?
  • How many loops long is your chain?
  • Where should we hang your finished chain?

Mastery looks like: They build a paper chain that correctly follows a chosen repeating color pattern.

Common stumbles: Grabbing whatever color strip is closest instead of checking the pattern order.
