Playdough shape factory

Roll and shape playdough into circles, squares, and triangles, strengthening hand muscles.

Playdough is a shape factory today. You will roll it, flatten it, and shape it into circles, squares, and triangles.

Roll a ball, then squish it flat with your palm. Then use your fingers to pinch it into a shape.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Homemade or store-bought dough both work fine. Have a clean, flat surface ready.
  • Model rolling and pinching slowly, narrating each step out loud.
  • Rolling, squishing, and pinching all build the small hand muscles used later for writing.
  • Let your child make extra shapes and combine them into a bigger dough scene if they want to keep going.
Talk about it:
  • Which dough shape was trickiest to make?
  • How did you make the corners on your square?
  • What could you build using your dough shapes?

Mastery looks like: They roll, flatten, and pinch dough into a recognizable circle, square, and triangle.

Common stumbles: Corners that round themselves back out because the dough is pinched too gently or too late.
