Balance beam walk

Walk heel-to-toe along a taped line on the floor, practicing balance and body control.

A line of tape on the floor can become a balance beam. Today you will walk along it without stepping off.

Put your arms out to the side, like airplane wings. Walk slowly, one foot in front of the other.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Use painter tape or masking tape on a flat, clear floor, away from furniture edges.
  • Model the arms-out balance walk yourself first, exaggerating a wobble to make it fun.
  • Stay close by and offer a hand if your child feels wobbly. This is about trying, not perfection.
  • Make new lines, like a zigzag or a curve, to keep the challenge fresh.
Talk about it:
  • What did your arms do to help you balance?
  • Was walking forward or backward harder?
  • What new balance beam shape should we try next?

Mastery looks like: They walk the length of a taped line with reasonable balance, using their arms to help.

Common stumbles: Looking down at their feet instead of ahead, which often makes balance worse, not better.
