Freeze dance and animal walks

Move the body to music and freeze on stop, then move like different animals, building body control.

Music makes your body want to move. Today you will dance while the music plays, then freeze like a statue the moment it stops.

You will also walk like animals: stomp like an elephant, hop like a bunny, slither like a snake.

📋 For the teacher
Teach it (10–15 min):
  • Play and pause music yourself, and vary the pause timing so freezing stays a real challenge.
  • Model each animal walk yourself first. Big, silly movements make it more fun.
  • Give clear open space, away from furniture corners, before you start moving.
  • Let your child pick a few animals of their own to add to the game.
Talk about it:
  • Which animal walk was your favorite?
  • Was it easy or hard to freeze completely still?
  • What other animal could we walk like next time?

Mastery looks like: They stop and hold still promptly when the music stops, and can move in a way that matches each named animal.

Common stumbles: Continuing to wiggle after freezing, or forgetting to freeze right away when the music stops.
